O projecto CONTRAST consiste numa rede alargada de instituições de ensino superior ligadas à formação em fotografia, que tem como principal objectivo promover o pensamento, o debate e a divulgação de actividades relacionadas com esta prática.

Uma das primeiras iniciativas deste projecto foi, precisamente, a publicação do livro CONTRAST: A Fotografia no Ensino Superior. No próximo dia 9 de Julho, às 16h00, na Aula Magna da FBAUP, dar-se-á início a um ciclo de conferências que contará com a participação de docentes e estudantes da ESMAD, FAUP e FBAUP.

Abstract

The International Conference for SOPHIA #6 took place at the Faculty of Architecture of University of Porto (FAUP), continuing the annual cycle of international forums on a specific theme.
Sophia Journal´s International Conference presented a live and video conference programme organized by CEAU / FAUP in partnership with other institutions and the event will be held online and access to the Conference Room will only be possible to the organising team.
Encompassing a rich and diverse programme around: (i) roundtables for each panel concerning a focused topic coming from Sophia´s comprehensive call; (ii) presentation of articles submitted; (iii) the opening of Visual Spaces of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations exhibition using the VSC Mobile Projector.
The contents of the exhibition will also be online soon and the exhibition experience was registered purely for research purposes, being analysed in the context of the ongoing Visual Spaces of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations articles and research.
The global objective of these international forums is to promote the reflection and debate on the universes of architecture, art and image, addressing various issues transversal to the worlds of photography and architecture, exploring how the image can be a means to cross borders and shift boundaries between different disciplinary areas.

Programme

The programme of Visual Spaces of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations comprised a set of roundtables on which it was possible to address and debate the following issues:

·      How do we all become aware of the gradual, but inescapable changes in the environment?

·      How does photography raise public awareness of the pressing environmental changes implicit in our anthropocentric epoch?

·      How can photography contribute to these complex debates?

These issues can be addressed from several perspectives: from confronting our memories and understandings of a place to reactivating ‘what is no longer there’ or proposing ‘what could be there’.
The objective is to challenge our understanding on how contemporary photography can be explored as a meaningful instrument of research about today processes of urban change and architectural spaces, producing visual synthesis about how architectures, places and spaces are used and lived, rendering visible aspects which are difficult to perceive without the purposeful use of image and photography.
We believe that this conference will make significant contributions to these discussions, including the material processes of creating, managing and interpreting sets of documents. We are interested in material processes where photography is explored as a significant research tool for critical and innovative views on architecture and urban transformation in their expanded fields and contextualized by larger systems: cultural, political, artistic, technical, and historical dimensions.

The 4 roundtables of the conference´s global theme - photographic documentation of environmental transformations - were held online on the 21 and 22 of May 2021 hosted by the organising team at room CCR0.1 – FAUP – and will cover the following topics:

Photographing the altered identity of landscapes

There is a challenge when using photography as both an inquiry tool and artistic form of expression for representing landscapes, which entails uncovering their physical, cultural, social and political marks as well as their identity, their perceived uniqueness as places. Landscapes are territories transformed by human action and, as such, they reveal the understanding and values of past and present societies and how we are transforming the environment. According to Lefebvre (La production de l’espace, 1974), one of the ways of conditioning social reproduction occurs through the economic and political restriction of a group accessing space, thus it is vital to call our attention to how landscapes are being significantly transformed, conditioned and controlled. How can we understand landscapes and their identity in the contemporary transformation processes resulting from the dynamics of change and disrupting habits of our societies?

Photographic narratives of urban transformations 

Time, space, scale and movement are essential aspects of visual data production. Significant changes in cities’ flows can transpire in just a few minutes, hours or days, span several years or even decades. A diachronic study of an urban environment could concentrate on the repetitive patterns of many activities and phenomena that occur during a day or focus on transformations over much more extensive periods of time. Several photographic methods explicitly focus on sequentially researching social change and cultural expressions as they develop, over time in a particular space. Yet, art-based communication approaches express insights in more experimental ways, from ‘visual essays’ to digital storytelling, photo-novels, sometimes using pre-existing images, and even non-photographic ones. Boosted by new media technologies and networking opportunities, they are powerful contemporary vehicles for voicing and visualizing our reflections, ideas, arguments, experiences, and observations upon change, from manifestos to critical reviews, or just compelling stories.

Digital spectacle and its impact on architecture and the architectural image

As some argue that architecture is too slow for the digital revolution1, the resurrection of the collage, appeared as a viable strategy to critically reclaim architecture's place: one that, unlike simulations of binary realities, was to be a raw and ambiguous like an ‘open project’, even if computer simulated.  Due to its success, the collage has been taken over by the market for its ‘arresting novelty’. As a commodity, it compensates for architecture's slow pace: faster to produce and consume, less related to the disciplinary process of the conception, more evocative and less ideological.  To some, the ‘collage era’ represents the return of a richer, stronger profession2  while some claim they are blank postcards of a post-idealistic age, one where built quality rarely holds up. At a time when the true cost of globalization, consumption and constant growth is under discussion, should architecture embrace speed or is there the need for a counter-model? 

Photographic documentation of environmental transformations: Visual Essay

We have invited two authors and their visual essays that address the issue of photographic documentation of environmental transformation from different perspectives and visual constructs. On the one hand, to challenge our understanding on how contemporary photography can be explored as a meaningful instrument of research about today processes of urban change and architectural spaces. On the other hand, to discuss the material processes where photography is explored as a significant research tool for critical and innovative views on architecture and urban transformation.

Keynote Lecture: Epics of the Everyday
The keynote lecture will look at the historic and ongoing relationship between documentary photography and architecture through the lens of the ever-changing notion of realism.

Opening Session, Invited Speakers and Moderators

This edition of the International Conference Visual Spaces of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations for this 6th number of Sophia Journal brings together a diverse group of researchers, architects, visual artists, and curators of international relevance, in an exercise of joint reflexivity about photographic documentation of environmental transformation from different perspectives and visual constructs. The talks held at this conference will allow the introduction of a number of issues that are not necessarily foreseen in the initial programme of the conference, enabling an active dialogue between researchers, authors and the public, contributing to the identification of new avenues of research and artistic expression related to how photography can be explored as a meaningful instrument of research about today processes of urban change and architectural spaces.

O projecto "CONTRAST: Rede de iniciativas artísticas multidisciplinares na Arte, Arquitectura, Design e Fotografia" (CONTRAST) líderado pelo grupo de investigação AAI-CEAU-FAUP, coordenado por Pedro Leão Neto, com uma gestão em parceria com a ESMAD-uniMAD e o i2ads-FBAUP foi seleccionado para financiamento no concurso de apoio a projectos criação e edição da DGARTES 

CONTRAST é um projeto de dinamização cultural interdisciplinar focado na criação duma rede de iniciativas artísticas e reflexão crítica incentivando o debate sobre temas transversais à Arte, Arquitectura e Design através do mundo da Criação, do Editorial, e do Ensino da Fotografia em diversas áreas disciplinares, reforçando a oferta artística e editorial, o acesso e participação nas artes.

“CONTRAST: Multidisciplinary artistic network of art, architecture, design and photography initiatives” was selected for funding through DGARTES support program - Criação e Edição.

“CONTRAST: Multidisciplinary artistic network of Art, Architecture, Design and Photography initiatives” (CONTRAST) project, headed by the AAI-CEAU-FAUP research group, coordinated by Pedro Leão Neto, to be jointly managed with ESMAD-uniMAD and i2ads-FBAUP, was selected for funding through DGARTES support program – Criação e Edição. 

CONTRAST is an interdisciplinary cultural informative project focused on the creation of a network of artistic initiatives and critical reflection encouraging debates about art, architecture and design. Through proposals coming from Creation, Editorial and Teaching worlds of photography in several disciplinary areas, we pretend to reinforce the artistic and editorial offer, as well as the access and participation in the arts.

Exposição Visual Spaces of Change: Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto – 20 | 21

Neste momento, a Visual Spaces of Change pode ser visitada na FAUP - pavilhão escolar Cavalariças no Campo Alegre - e o público interessado pode agendar uma visita guiada através de marcação prévia e assim ser acompanhado e beneficiar de uma explicação sobre os conteúdos dos projectos de Fotografia Contemporânea em exposição.

Haverá nos dias 21 e 22 de Outubro, visitas guiadas com um máximo de dois alunos por visita, respeitando a distância de dois metros de segurança e utilzando máscaras. Aberta a todos, a exposição é no entanto destinadas aos alunos das unidades curriculares do Projecto de Arquitetura Assistido por Computador e Fotografia 1º Ciclo e Fotografia de Arquitetura, Cidade e Território 2º Ciclo.

A exposição permitirá explorar diversos suportes de comunicação como livros, painéis, projecção de vídeo, computadores portáteis e tablets. Os painéis da exposição centram-se num projecto de fotografia contemporânea que tem a FAUP como tema principal, o que significa que será possível comparar as séries de fotografia no local, bem como visitar o protótipo da nova estrutura da Exposição que foi premiada com o primeiro prémio no Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição e Projector Móvel, que visa permitir ao público perceber e desfrutar do espaço público e da arquitectura de uma forma inovadora e pedagógica.

Os conteúdos da exposição estão online na plataforma VSC e a experiência expositiva está registada puramente para efeitos de investigação, sendo objeto de análise no contexto do projeto de investigação VSC em curso.

Este projecto é desenvolvido pelo grupo de investigação Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI) do Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (CEAU) da Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP) e pelo laboratório Lab2PT (Escola de Arquitectura) e pelo Centro ALGORITMI (Escola Superior de Engenharia) da Universidade do Minho. 

Pedro Leão Neto é o Investigator Responsável do projecto que é estruturado de acordo com as contribuições científicas: i) a componente Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação, é coordenada pelo Investigador Co-Responsável do projeto, Luis Gonzaga Magalhães (Centro ALGORITMI) e Pedro Bandeira (Lab2PT); e ii) a Componente Científica (Artes e Fotografia), é coordenada por Pedro Leão Neto, do AAI/CEAU, juntamente com os investigadores José Barbedo (AAI/CEAU), Miguel Santos (AAI/CEAU), Eduardo Silva (AAI/CEAU), Rita Silva (AAI/CEAU) e Né Santelmo (Directora de Arte).

Visual Spaces of Change 
Visual Spaces of Change propõe uma estratégia de comunicação visual baseada no desenvolvimento de projetos de fotografia contemporânea que reflitam sobre as diferentes dinâmicas de mudança urbana para abrir novos horizontes de intervenção pública no espaço público. Estes projetos são concebidos como “narrativas visuais” destas dinâmicas, interferindo intencionalmente com o território metropolitano numa representação auto-reflexiva do seu próprio processo de mudança, reduzindo a distância entre os objetos de investigação (paisagens, lugares, espaços públicos e coletivos) e as suas representações.

Estrutura colaborativa
O Visual Spaces of Change reúne um conjunto diversificado de instituições e investigadores, arquitetos, curadores, fotógrafos e autores de artes visuais, num exercício de reflexividade conjunta em torno de preocupações comuns ligadas à transformação do território, ao espaço público e ao meio ambiente. A colaboração ativa dessa ampla rede de atores institucionais visa aumentar sua capacidade de intervir em sua realidade social por meio de ações concertadas.

Visual Spaces of Change Exhibition

A At the moment, the Visual Spaces of Change Exhibition can be visited at Cavalariças FAUP, school pavilion Campo Alegre and the interested public can schedule a guided tour through prior booking and thus be accompanied and benefit from an explanation about the contents of the Contemporary Photography projects on display.

There will be on the 21 and 22 of October, guided tours of maximum two students at a time respecting the 2 meters security and using masks. Open to all, it is nevertheless aimed at students of the curricular units of Projeto de Arquitetura Assistido por Computador e Fotografia 1º Ciclo and Fotografia de Arquitetura, Cidade e Território 2º Ciclo.

The exhibition will allow to explore several communications supports as books, panels, video projection, laptop computers and tablets. The exhibition panels focus on a contemporary photography project that has FAUP as its main subject, which means that it will be possible to compare the photography series on site, as well as to visit the prototype of the new Exhibition structure that was awarded with the first prize in International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector, which aims to allow the public to perceive and enjoy public space and architecture in an innovative and pedagogical way.

The contents of the exhibition are online on the VSC platform and the exhibition experience is registered purely for research purposes, being analyzed in the context of the ongoing VSC research project.

This project is developed by the research group Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI) of the Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (CEAU) da Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP), by Lab2PT (Escola de Arquitectura) and by the Centro ALGORITMI (Escola Superior de Engenharia) of the Universidade do Minho. 

 

Pedro Leão Neto is the PI of the project, which is structured according to scientific contributions: i) the Information and Communication Technologies component, is coordinated by the project's Co-PI, Luis Gonzaga Magalhães (Centro ALGORITMI) and Pedro Bandeira (Lab2PT); e ii) the Scientific Component (Arts and Photography), is coordinated by Pedro Leão Neto of AAI/CEAU, alongside with the researchers, Miguel Santos (AAI/CEAU), Eduardo Silva (AAI/CEAU), Rita Silva (AAI/CEAU) and Né Santelmo (Directora de Arte).

Visual Spaces of Change 
Visual Spaces of Change proposes a visual communication strategy based on the development of contemporary photography projects that reflect on the different dynamics of urban change to open up new horizons for public intervention in the public space. These projects are conceived as “visual narratives” of these dynamics, intentionally interfering with the metropolitan territory in a self-reflective representation of its own process of change, reducing the distance between the objects of investigation (landscapes, places, public and collective spaces) and the their representations.

Collaborative structure
Visual Spaces of Change brings together a diverse set of institutions and researchers, architects, curators, photographers and authors of visual arts, in an exercise of joint reflexivity around common concerns related to the transformation of the territory, the public space and the environment. The active collaboration of this wide network of institutional actors aims to increase their capacity to intervene in their social reality through concerted actions.

”Olim” de Camilo Rebelo | 26 de novembro de 2020

O livro 'Olim', da autoria de Camilo Rebelo, é apresentado a 26 de novembro, às 18h00, na Sala Plana pela Scopio Editions, um projeto editorial, na área da fotografia documental e artística relacionada com arquitetura, do grupo de investigação AAI — Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem — do Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo da FAUP.

A partir do livro 'Olim', a sessão, que integra o programa do ciclo Conferências, Debates e Conversas 'Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem', pretende dar a conhecer o autor e algumas das suas obras através de uma conferência, debate e conversa, promovendo assim uma análise crítica em volta da prática e disciplina da Arquitetura e da Arte em geral, procurando diversos cruzamentos entre estes dois mundos, bem como a sua ligação com o universo da Imagem.'Olim' é um livro de autor que, pela sua temática, bem como pela sua estrutura pouco convencional e relacionada com a utilização da imagem como dispositivo criativo e de ideação no universo da arquitetura, aproximando-se de trabalhos na linhagem do livro-atlas, insere-se na investigação conduzida pelo grupo 'Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem' do CEAU, bem como com as unidades curriculares 'Fotografia de Arquitectura, Cidade e Território' e 'Comunicação de Projeto de Arquitectura e Fotografia'.

Camilo Rebelo nasceu no Porto, em 1972 e licenciou-se em Arquitetura pela FAUP em 1996. Foi colaborador de Eduardo Souto de Moura, entre 1997 e 1998, e de Herzog & de Meuron, entre 1998 e 1999. Foi assistente convidado na FAUP entre 1999 e 2013, na 'École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne' entre 2008 a 2011, na 'Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, Universidad de Navarra' e na 'Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio, Università della Svizzera italiana'. Exerce atividade liberal desde 2000, tendo sido premiado em vários concursos de projecto, destacando-se o primeiro prémio no concurso internacional para a conceção do Museu de Arte e Arqueologia do Vale do Côa, em coautoria com Tiago Pimentel, 2004 - 2009; e a menção honrosa no concurso internacional para a conceção do Museu de Arte Moderna de Varsóvia, 2007, em coautoria com Susana Martins.

Exposição Anuária 2020 FAUP

Teve lugar no passado dia 22 de outubro uma visita / aula aberta conduzida por Pedro Leão Neto dirigidas para os alunos das unidades curriculares de Projeto de Arquitetura Assistido por Computador e Fotografia 1º Ciclo (CAAD I) e Fotografia de Arquitetura, Cidade e Território do 2º Ciclo (FACT), nas instalações da FAUP onde está neste momento a Exposição da Anuária com trabalhos do ano letivo de 2019 / 2020, cuja temática se relaciona com o projeto de investigação Visual Spaces of Change (VSC).

CAAD I / FAUP
O objetivo do CAAD I / FAUP, 1º Ciclo no 1º semestre, é desenvolver as bases teóricas e práticas relacionadas com temáticas de estratégias de comunicação visual para projeto de arquitetura num estágio inicial de desenvolvimento, com especial incidência na análise e comunicação do território de estudo e na utilização da fotografia e do seu potencial para questionar e problematizar o universo da Arquitectura, Cidade e Território.
A fotografia é utilizada como um instrumento de pesquisa e crítico do território de estudo com vista à conceção e produção de um fotolivro coletivo e individual sobre esse território.

A estratégia de trabalho adotada nas aulas práticas orienta os alunos a desenvolverem paralelamente exercícios de comunicação individual e coletiva de comunicação e fotografia, sendo o território de estudo um espaço público ou programa de arquitetura localizado na Grande Porto.


CAAD II / FAUP
O objetivo do CAAD II / FAUP, 1º Ciclo no 2º semestre, é continuar a desenvolver e refinar o trabalho desenvolvido em CAAD I no que diz respeito às bases teóricas e práticas relacionadas com a temática das estratégias de comunicação para o projeto de arquitetura num estágio inicial de desenvolvimento, mas agora com incidência num processo de comunicação e representação capaz de questionar o universo de Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem ao (re)pensar e explorar os diversos instrumentos de representação do pensamento e imaginação, ampliando deste modo uma prática de arquitetura ou teoria.

A estratégia de trabalho adotada nas aulas práticas é a mesma da adoptada em CAAD I, orientando os alunos a desenvolverem paralelamente exercícios de comunicação individual e coletiva de criação de um fotolivro / livro de artista, sendo o território de estudo um espaço público ou programa de arquitetura localizado no Grande Porto.


FACT / FAUP
O objectivo de FACT, 2º Ciclo no 1º semestre é, por um lado, aprofundar o estudo e prática adquiridos em CAAD I e II sobre a utilizacção da fotografia e do seu potencial para questionar e problematizar o universo da Arquitectura, Cidade e Território. Por outro lado, levar os alunos a desenvolver uma narrativa visual fotográfica com maior maturidade, capaz de comunicar novas perspectivas sobre o espaço e a realidade urbana e que possa constituir uma base para a sua dissertacção final do MIARQ.

O intuito é dar a conhecer aos alunos trabalhos de diversos autores que utilizam a fotografia documental para questionar e problematizar o espaço urbano e seus modos de apropriação e despertar neles a consciência para a existência de diversas correntes e estratégias artísticas aquando da utilizacção da fotografia documental como um instrumento de investigação e comunicação crítica no universo da Arquitectura, Cidade e Território.

A estratégia de trabalho adotada nas aulas práticas é a mesma da adoptada em CAAD I, orientando os alunos a desenvolverem paralelamente exercícios de comunicação individual e coletiva de criação de um fotolivro / livro de artista.

Anuária exhibition 2019/2020 | FAUP

A guided tour / class took place on the 22nd of October, conducted by Pedro Leão Neto, aimed at students of the curricular units of Computer Aided Architecture Project and Photography curricular units 1st Cycle (CAAD I) and Photography, Architecture, City and Territory 2nd Cycle (FACT), at the premises of FAUP where the Anuária Exhibition is currently taking place with works from the academic year 2019/2020, whose theme is related to the research project Visual Spaces of Change (VSC).

CAAD I
The objective of CAAD I / FAUP, 1st Cycle in the 1st semester, is to develop the theoretical and practical bases related to the themes of visual communication strategies for architectural design at an early stage of development, with a special focus on the analysis and communication of the study territory and in the use of photography and its potential to question and problematize the universe of Architecture, City and Territory.Photography is used as a research tool and critic of the study territory with a view to the conception and production of a collective and individual photobook on that territory.The work strategy adopted in practical classes guides students to develop parallel individual and collective communication and photography exercises, with the study territory being a public space or architecture program located in Greater Porto.

CAAD II
The objective of CAAD II / FAUP, 1st Cycle in the 2nd semester, is to continue to develop and refine the work developed in CAAD I with regard to the theoretical and practical bases related to the theme of communication strategies for architectural design in an internship development, but now focusing on a communication and representation process capable of questioning the universe of Architecture, Art and Image by (re) thinking and exploring the various instruments of representation of thought and imagination, thereby expanding an architectural practice or theory.The work strategy adopted in practical classes is the same as that adopted in CAAD I, guiding students to develop parallel individual and collective communication exercises to create a photobook / artist's book, with the study territory being a public space or program of architecture located in Greater Porto.

FACT
The objective of FACT, 2nd Cycle in the 1st semester is, on the one hand, to deepen the study and practice acquired in CAAD I and II on the use of photography and its potential to question and problematize the universe of Architecture, City and Territory. On the other hand, taking students to develop a visual photographic narrative with greater maturity, capable of communicating new perspectives on space and urban reality and that can form a basis for their final dissertation on MIARQ.The aim is to make students aware of works by different authors who use documentary photography to question and problematize urban space and its modes of appropriation and to awaken in them an awareness of the existence of different currents and artistic strategies when using documentary photography as an instrument of investigation and critical communication in the universe of Architecture, City and Territory.The work strategy adopted in practical classes is the same as that adopted in CAAD I, guiding students to develop, in parallel, individual and collective communication exercises to create a photobook / artist's book.

Visual Spaces of Change 
Visual Spaces of Change proposes a visual communication strategy based on the development of contemporary photography projects that reflect on the different dynamics of urban change to open up new horizons for public intervention in the public space. These projects are conceived as “visual narratives” of these dynamics, intentionally interfering with the metropolitan territory in a self-reflective representation of its own process of change, reducing the distance between the objects of investigation (landscapes, places, public and collective spaces) and the their representations.

Collaborative structire
Visual Spaces of Change brings together a diverse set of institutions and researchers, architects, curators, photographers and authors of visual arts, in an exercise of joint reflexivity around common concerns related to the transformation of the territory, the public space and the environment. The active collaboration of this wide network of institutional actors aims to increase their capacity to intervene in their social reality through concerted actions.

Visitas guiadas: Exposição Visual Spaces of Change Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto

Tiveram lugar no passado dia 16 e 22 de outubro duas visitas guiadas realizadas por Pedro Leão Neto e dirigidas para os alunos das unidades curriculares de Projeto de Arquitetura Assistido por Computador e Fotografia 1º Ciclo e Fotografia de Arquitetura, Cidade e Território do 2º Ciclo, nas instalações da FAUP onde está neste momento a Exposição Visual Spaces of Change.

Com diversos tipos de estruturas móveis para a comunicação de projetos de fotografia contemporânea sobre arquitetura e espaços de cidade, esta Exposição apresenta também um protótipo da proposta da estrutura vencedora do Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Expositor e Projetor Móvel – da autoria de Sérgio Magalhães, studium - creative studio – construída com o apoio de Jofebar e localizada na "piscina" entre as torres da FAUP.

Neste momento, a Exposição Visual Spaces of Change pode ser visitada nos espaços da FAUP podendo o público interessado agendar uma visita guiada através de marcação prévia e e assim ser acompanhado e beneficiar de uma explicação acerca dos conteúdos dos projetos de Fotografia Contemporânea expostos, bem como da nova estrutura Expositiva que foi galardoada com o primeiro prémio no Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição, Estrutura Expositiva e Projetor Móvel que tem como objetivo permitir ao público a perceção e fruição do espaço público e arquitetura de uma forma inovadora e pedagógica.

Os conteúdos da exposição estão online na plataforma VSC e a experiência expositiva está registada puramente para efeitos de investigação, sendo objeto de análise no contexto do projeto de investigação VSC em curso.

Este projecto é desenvolvido pelo grupo de investigação Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI) do Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (CEAU) da Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP) e pelo laboratório Lab2PT (Escola de Arquitectura) e pelo Centro ALGORITMI (Escola Superior de Engenharia) da Universidade do Minho. 

Pedro Leão Neto é o Investigator Responsável do projecto que é estruturado de acordo com as contribuições científicas: i) a componente Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação, é coordenada pelo Investigador Co-Responsável do projeto, Luis Gonzaga Magalhães (Centro ALGORITMI) e Pedro Bandeira (Lab2PT); e ii) a Componente Científica (Artes e Fotografia), é coordenada por Pedro Leão Neto, do AAI/CEAU, juntamente com os investigadores José Barbedo (AAI/CEAU), Miguel Santos (AAI/CEAU), Eduardo Silva (AAI/CEAU), Rita Silva (AAI/CEAU) e Né Santelmo (Directora de Arte).

Visual Spaces of Change 
Visual Spaces of Change propõe uma estratégia de comunicação visual baseada no desenvolvimento de projetos de fotografia contemporânea que reflitam sobre as diferentes dinâmicas de mudança urbana para abrir novos horizontes de intervenção pública no espaço público. Estes projetos são concebidos como “narrativas visuais” destas dinâmicas, interferindo intencionalmente com o território metropolitano numa representação auto-reflexiva do seu próprio processo de mudança, reduzindo a distância entre os objetos de investigação (paisagens, lugares, espaços públicos e coletivos) e as suas representações.

Estrutura colaborativa
O Visual Spaces of Change reúne um conjunto diversificado de instituições e investigadores, arquitetos, curadores, fotógrafos e autores de artes visuais, num exercício de reflexividade conjunta em torno de preocupações comuns ligadas à transformação do território, ao espaço público e ao meio ambiente. A colaboração ativa dessa ampla rede de atores institucionais visa aumentar sua capacidade de intervir em sua realidade social por meio de ações concertadas.

Ao(s) vencedor(es) será atribuído um prémio monetário ou um equipamento informático.As propostas dos(s) autor(es) ou equipa(s) que forem premiadas ou receberem menção honrosa terão o seu estudo e créditos incluídos no projeto de investigação VSC, sendo pelo menos assegurada a integração de uma das propostas para execução, divulgação, publicitação, exposição e utilização no âmbito do VSC, contando com o apoio da Jofebar para a construção de um protótipo da estrutura vencedora.
1º O(a)s autores das propostas vencedoras serão contactado(a)s no sentido de aprofundarem o projeto, com apoio do AAI-CEAU-FAUP, AAi2 Lab e Centro ALGORITMI-Lab2PT/UMINHO e outros parceiros, nomeadamente a empresa Jofebar | Portugal no sentido de viabilizar a sua construção.
2º Sem prejuízo dos prémios atribuídos a cada uma das propostas vencedoras será dado um certificado de participação a cada equipa do concurso, bem como as suas entradas serão divulgadas nas plataformas e redes do grupo AAI (websites, redes sociais, etc.).

On the 16th and 22nd of October, Pedro Leão Neto gave two guided tours aimed at students of the curricular units of Projeto de Arquitetura Assistido por Computador e Fotografia 1º Ciclo and Fotografia de Arquitetura, Cidade e Território 2º Ciclo, on the facilities of FAUP where the Visual Spaces of Change Exhibition is as the moment.

With several types of mobile structures for the communication of contemporary photography projects on architecture and city spaces, this Exhibition also presents a prototype of the proposal of the winning structure of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector – authored by Sérgio Magalhães, studium - creative studio – built with the support of Jofebar and located in the "pool” between FAUP’s towers.

At the momento, the Spaces of Change Exhibition can be visited in the FAUP spaces and the interested public can schedule a guided tour through prior booking and thus be accompanied and benefit from an explanation about the contents of the Contemporary Photography projects on display, as well as the new Exhibition structure that was awarded with the first prize in International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector which aims to allow the public to perceive and enjoy public space and architecture in an innovative and pedagogical way.

The contents of the exhibition are online on the VSC platform and the exhibition experience is registered purely for research purposes, being analyzed in the context of the ongoing VSC research project.

This project is developed by the research group Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI) of the Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (CEAU) da Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP), by Lab2PT (Escola de Arquitectura) and by the Centro ALGORITMI (Escola Superior de Engenharia) of the Universidade do Minho.

Jury of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector

Awards of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector:
The winner(s) will be awarded a monetary prize or computer equipment. Proposals by the author(s) or team(s) that are awarded or receive an honorable mention will have their study and credits included in the project. VSC research, at least ensuring the integration of one of the proposals for execution, dissemination, advertising, exhibition and use within the scope of the VSC, with the support of Jofebar for the construction of a prototype of the winning structure.
1st The author(s) of the winning proposals will be contacted in order to deepen the project, with support from AAI-CEAU-FAUP, AAi2 Lab and Centro ALGORITMI-Lab2PT / UMINHO and other partners, namely the company Jofebar | Portugal in order to make its construction feasible.
2nd Without prejudice to the prizes awarded to each of the winning proposals, a certificate of participation will be given to each team in the contest, as well as their entries will be disclosed on the platforms and networks of the AAI group (websites, social networks, etc.).
3rd The prizes will be delivered in a public ceremony to be held at FAUP with the presence of Jofebar during the year 2020.

International Conference: Visual Spaces of Change: Sophia Journal Exhibition and Mobile Projector Awards


The International Conference: Visual Spaces of Change: Sophia Journal Exhibition and Mobile Projector Awards – which encompassed the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector award ceremony – took place last October 14, 2020, at FAUP's Fernando Plana Hall and Auditorium.

.The inaugural session was in charge of the Director of FAUP, João Pedro Xavier, followed by an intervention by Pedro Leão Neto (AAI / CEAU-FAUP) who presented the prototype of the winning proposal of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector - authored by studium - creative studio - present at FAUP's facilities, which was built with the support of Jofebar.

Then Wilfried Wang (UTSoA), O'Neil Ford Centennial Professor of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin and Guest Editor of Issue 6 of the publication Sophia: Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations, discussed the theme of the call for papers of this 6th edition.

Fátima Pombo (Departamento de Comunicação e Arte - U. Aveiro) invited editor of Sophia's 5th issue - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere - made an introduction to that same publication, followed by the presentation of the articles selected for this 5th issue by their authors.

The article Preserving Heritage Through New Narratives: designing a guesthouse within a multidisciplinary team by Pedro Bandeira Maia and Raul Pinto was presented by Raul Pinto in an online format, The Role of Architecture for an Exhibition Engaging and Meaningful Aesthetic Experience by Bárbara dos Santos Coutinho and Ana Tostões was alsp presented in online format by Bárbara dos Santos Coutinho, and The modern Shelter: Laugier or Ledoux, metaphormosis or ex-novo, architecture for modern subjects and powers by José António Bandeirinha and Rui Aristides featured a presentation at the conference, carried out by Rui Aristides.

The Conference had as its closing session the round table Visual Spaces of Change through Photography and Image, with the participation of Inaki Bergera (Escuela de Ingeniería y Arquitectura Universidad de Zaragoza), Pedro Gadanho, who co-organized the conference Visual Spaces of Change that took place at the Museum of Architecture and Art Technology (MAAT) in 2019 (occupying the position of Director of MAAT at the time), Paolo Rosselli and Marco Iuliano, both main speakers at the conference at MAAT, Fátima Pombo (Departamento de Comunicação e Arte - U. A) and Pedro Leão Neto (AAI-CEAU-FAUP).

The face-to-face event and the videoconference program are part of the cycle of conferences and debates on Architecture, Art and Image (AAI) at FAUP organized in partnership with UNIZAR, UA and DECA / ID +. The event was broadcast live online, covering: (i) a series of videoconferences; (ii) the round table for the launch and presentation of the 4th issue of the publication with peer review - Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space through Photography and Image; (iii) presentations of articles in the 5th issue - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere; (iv) the announcement of the open call for articles for the sixth issue of Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations; (v) the announcement of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector Awards and the Visual Spaces of Change exhibition, developed for this conference and for FAUP spaces, where new contemporary photography projects will be communicated, as well as a new Exhibition structure that was awarded the first prize in the International Ideas Competition: Exhibition, Exhibition Structure and Mobile Projector.

The purpose of this event, which took place in FAUP's Sala Plana and Fernando Távora Auditorium and also in videoconference format - in which more than 70 participants participate via zoom - is to promote reflection and debate around the universe of Architecture, Art and Image , addressing several transversal issues to the world of Photography and Architecture, exploring how image can be a means to cross borders and move boundaries between different disciplinary areas. The focus of the conference focuses on the transformations of public space and on the concept of interiority in architecture, having as a motto, on the one hand, the texts published in the publication Sophia Journal regarding the ON THE SURFACE conference that took place in May 2019 at the Museum of Architecture, Art and Technology (MAAT), where the potential of Photography was analyzed as a significant instrument to investigate, reflect and make visible the different dynamics of urban change and open new horizons of intervention in the public space. On the other hand, the articles selected for the 5th issue of Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere.

Jury of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector

Awards of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector:

The winner(s) will be awarded a monetary prize or computer equipment. Proposals by the author(s) or team(s) that are awarded or receive an honorable mention will have their study and credits included in the project. VSC research, at least ensuring the integration of one of the proposals for execution, dissemination, advertising, exhibition and use within the scope of the VSC, with the support of Jofebar for the construction of a prototype of the winning structure.

1º The author(s) of the winning proposals will be contacted in order to deepen the project, with support from AAI-CEAU-FAUP, AAi2 Lab and Centro ALGORITMI-Lab2PT / UMINHO and other partners, namely the company Jofebar | Portugal in order to make its construction feasible.
2º Without prejudice to the prizes awarded to each of the winning proposals, a certificate of participation will be given to each team in the contest, as well as their entries will be disclosed on the platforms and networks of the AAI group (websites, social networks, etc.).
3rd The prizes will be delivered in a public ceremony to be held at FAUP with the presence of Jofebar during the year 2020.

Volume 4 da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space through Photography and Image 

The theoretical objectives of Sophia's 4th issue and the 5th International Conference on the Surface, “Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Transformation of Publicness” were for an interdisciplinary debate on photography and architecture, with a strong editorial component dedicated to the publication of works and original ideas at the intersection of these two fields. The theme chosen for this edition of On the Surface was focused on the contemporary transformations of public space: “Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space” which aims to discuss and explore the potential of Image and Photography as useful tools for research, reflect on and make visible the emergence of new collective experiences in the social space.

Volume 5 of Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere

The interest of Sophia's 5th issue, which will be called Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere, is in original articles that discuss the core of Interiority in Architecture as an open subject to diverse ideas and practices in the kingdom of the built space to be experienced by its inhabitants. Interiority differentiates a place from a non-place. Non-places are points with which the individual does not create any relationship; they are places of transit without memory, identity, history, personal construction, references, emotions of which the consolation is no less. Interiority calls that type of space that accommodates thoughts, dreams, nightmares, intimacy, changes, silence, noise, neurosis ... life. Shelter, form, place, atmosphere portray scenarios that enhance experiences, events, occurrences beyond the functionalist rhetoric that surrounds them. Our magazine is now accepting articles within this framework, which can contribute to expressing critically and poetically a broader understanding of interior design in architecture.

Volume 6 of Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations

Sophia's Volume 6 will be dedicated to the theme Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations

How do we all become aware of the gradual but inevitable changes in the environment? How does photography raise public awareness of the urgent environmental changes implicit in our anthropocentric age? How can photography contribute to these complex debates? These questions can be approached from several perspectives: from the confrontation of our memories and understandings of a place to reactivate "what is no longer there" or to propose "what could be there".

This volume of Sophia will bring together photographers and researchers who make significant contributions to these discussions, including the material processes of creating, managing and interpreting sets of documents. We are interested in material processes where photography is explored as a significant research tool for critical and innovative views on architecture and urban transformation in its expanded fields and contextualized by larger systems: cultural, political, artistic, technical and historical dimensions.

We will publish long-term photographic works of environmental change, innovative documentation or archival projects exploring discursive forms of presentation and visual constructions, articles and research papers discussing the rich spectrum of techniques and visual strategies employed in environmental discussions.

The spectrum of transformation processes is broad: deforestation, soil erosion, suburban expansion, devastated areas, decaying shopping malls, neglected social housing, post-industrial ruins, gentrification and privatization of public space or movements such as "Occupy" and "Fridays for Future ". In this context, we will be especially interested in proposals that are able to question how the different dimensions of architecture and urban transformation can be significantly understood or reframed through the different lenses and perspectives of visual processes.

The magazine is now accepting photographic works and critical articles within the framework above, which will allow interested audiences to reflect on the various transformation processes that affect our cities and territories today.

ABOUT SOPHIA PEER REVIEW JOURNAL

The Sophia collection is specifically designed to address theoretical work, and aims to be the editorial medium of a set of exploratory and critical texts on image in a broad sense, that is, covering the worlds of design, photography, cinema, the video, television and the new. media.

The etymology of the word "sophia" is closely linked to the concepts of wisdom and wisdom: (Greek, "sofia") is what the "wise person" has, and this word is also derived from philo + sophia ("love of wisdom" We are interested in making Sophia a mentis instrument capable of expanding our critical knowledge and questioning the image universe in an innovative way.

The collection, which hosts several academic works, will also be an important means of publishing some theoretical works from the FAUP - CEAU R&D Center. The purpose of the Sophia periodical collection is to publish a set of theoretical and critical texts on image in book format; these texts can be taken from sections of scopio magazine or submitted by new authors and other national and international R&D centers, through call for papers. The goal is to challenge different artists and creators to publish original articles, reviews, book reviews and other texts of interest and value for this collection.

Teve lugar no passado dia 14 de outubro de 2020, na Sala Plana e Auditório Fernando Távora da FAUP a Conferência Internacional: Visual Spaces of Change: Publicação Sophia Journal Exposição e a Cerimónia e Entrega de Prémios e Certificados no âmbito do Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Expositor e Projetor Móvel.

A sessão inaugural ficou a cargo do Director da FAUP, João Pedro Xavier, seguindo-se uma intervenção de Pedro Leão Neto (AAI / CEAU-FAUP) que apresentou o protótipo da proposta vencedora do Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Expositor e Projetor Móvel – da autoria da studium - creative studio – presente nas instalações da FAUP, a qual foi construída com o apoio de Jofebar.

De seguida Wilfried Wang (UTSoA), O'Neil Ford Centennial Professor de Arquitectura na Universidade do Texas em Austin e Editor convidado do número 6 da publicação Sophia: Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations, discutiu a temática da chamada para artigos desta 6ª edição.

Aveiro) editora convidada do 5º número de Sophia - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere – fez uma introdução a essa mesma publicação, seguindo-se a apresentação dos artigos selecionados para este 5º número por parte dos seus autores.

A Conferência teve como sessão de encerramento a mesa redonda Visual Spaces of Change through Photography and Image, que contou com a participação de Inaki Bergera (Escuela de Ingeniería y Arquitectura Universidad de Zaragoza), Pedro Gadanho, que co-organizou a conferência Visual Spaces of Change que teve lugar no Museu de Arquitectura e Tecnologia de Arte (MAAT) em 2019 (ocupando o cargo de Director do MAAT na altura), Paolo Rosselli e Marco Iuliano, ambos oradores principais da conferência no MAAT, Fátima Pombo (Departamento de Comunicação e Arte - U. A) e Pedro Leão Neto (AAI-CEAU-FAUP).

O evento presencial e o programa de videoconferências está enquadrado no ciclo de conferências e debates de Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI) na FAUP organizado em parceria com a UNIZAR, UA e DECA / ID +. O evento foi transmitido ao vivo online, abarcando: (i) uma série de videoconferências; (ii) a mesa redonda de lançamento e apresentação do 4º número da publicação com revisão por pares - Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space through Photography and Image; (iii) as apresentações de artigos do 5º número - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere; (iv) o anúncio da chamada aberta para artigos para o sexto número da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations; (v) o anúncio dos Prémios | Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição e Projector Móvel e a exposição Visual Spaces of Change, desenvolvida para esta conferência e para os espaços da FAUP, onde se comunicarão novos projetos de Fotografia Contemporânea, bem como uma nova estrutura Expositiva que foi galardoada com o primeiro prémio no Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição, Estrutura Expositiva e Projetor Móvel.

O objectivo deste evento, que teve lugar na sala Plana e Auditório da FAUP e também em formato de videoconferência – no qual participarem mais de 70 participantes via zoom – é o de promover uma reflexão e debate em volta do universo da Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem, abordando várias questões transversais ao mundo da Fotografia e da Arquitectura, explorando como a imagem pode ser um meio para atravessar fronteiras e deslocar limites entre diferentes áreas disciplinares. O enfoque da conferência incide sobre as transformações do espaço público e acerca da conceção de interioridade em arquitectura, tendo como mote, por um lado, os textos publicados na publicação Sophia Journal referente à conferência ON THE SURFACE que teve lugar em Maio de 2019 no Museu de Arquitectura, Arte e Tecnologia (MAAT), onde se analisou o potencial da Fotografia como instrumento significativo para investigar, refletir e tornar visível as diferentes dinâmicas de mudança urbana e  abrir novos horizontes de intervenção no espaço público. Por outro lado, os artigos selecionados para o 5º número da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere.

Visual Spaces of Change propõe uma estratégia de comunicação visual baseada no desenvolvimento de projetos de fotografia contemporânea que reflitam sobre as diferentes dinâmicas de mudança urbana para abrir novos horizontes de intervenção pública no espaço público. Estes projetos são concebidos como “narrativas visuais” destas dinâmicas, interferindo intencionalmente com o território metropolitano numa representação auto-reflexiva do seu próprio processo de mudança, reduzindo a distância entre os objetos de investigação (paisagens, lugares, espaços públicos e coletivos) e as suas representações.

Neste momento, a Exposição Visual Spaces of Change pode ser visitada nos espaços da FAUP podendo o público interessado agendar uma visita guiad através de marcação prévia e e assim ser acompanhado e beneficiar de uma explicação acerca dos conteúduos dos projetos de Fotografia Contemporânea expostos, bem como de uma nova estrutura Expositiva que foi galardoada com o primeiro prémio no Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição, Estrutura Expositiva e Projetor Móvel que tem como objetivo permitir ao público a perceção e fruição do espaço públcio e arquitetura de uma forma inovadora e pedagógica.

Os conteúdos da exposição estarão online na plataforma VSC e a experiência expositiva será registada puramente para efeitos de investigação, e será posteriormente analisada no contexto do projeto de investigação VSC em curso.

Devido às circunstâncias derivadas da atual situação de pós-pandemia, a conferência realizou-se simultaneamente em regime presencial e online.

Prémios do Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Expositor e Projetor Móvel:

Ao(s) vencedor(es) será atribuído um prémio monetário ou um equipamento informático.As propostas dos(s) autor(es) ou equipa(s) que forem premiadas ou receberem menção honrosa terão o seu estudo e créditos incluídos no projeto de investigação VSC, sendo pelo menos assegurada a integração de uma das propostas para execução, divulgação, publicitação, exposição e utilização no âmbito do VSC, contando com o apoio da Jofebar para a construção de um protótipo da estrutura vencedora.
1º O(a)s autores das propostas vencedoras serão contactado(a)s no sentido de aprofundarem o projeto, com apoio do AAI-CEAU-FAUP, AAi2 Lab e Centro ALGORITMI-Lab2PT/UMINHO e outros parceiros, nomeadamente a empresa Jofebar | Portugal no sentido de viabilizar a sua construção.
2º Sem prejuízo dos prémios atribuídos a cada uma das propostas vencedoras será dado um certificado de participação a cada equipa do concurso, bem como as suas entradas serão divulgadas nas plataformas e redes do grupo AAI (websites, redes sociais, etc.).
3º A entrega dos prémios será feita em cerimónia pública a realizar na FAUP contando com a presença da Jofebar durante o ano de 2020.

Volume 4 da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space through Photography and Image 

Os objetivos teóricos do 4º número de Sophia e da 5ª Conferência Internacional On the Surface, “Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Transformation of Publicness” eram para um debate interdisciplinar sobre fotografia e arquitetura, com uma forte componente editorial dedicada à publicação de obras e ideias originais na interseção desses dois campos. O tema escolhido para esta edição do On the Surface foi focado nas transformações contemporâneas do espaço público: “Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space” que se propõe a debater e explorar o potencial da Imagem e da Fotografia como ferramentas úteis para pesquisar, refletir sobre e tornar visível o surgimento de novas experiências coletivas no espaço social.

Volume 5 da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere

O interesse do 5º número da Sophia, que se chamará Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere, está em artigos originais que discutem o cerne da Interioridade na Arquitetura como um assunto aberto a diversas ideias e práticas no reino do espaço construído a ser vivenciado por seus habitantes. A interioridade diferencia um lugar de um não-lugar. Os não-lugares são pontos com os quais o indivíduo não cria nenhuma relação; são lugares de trânsito sem memória, identidade, história, construção pessoal, referências, emoções das quais o consolo não é menor. A interioridade chama aquele tipo de espaço que acomoda pensamentos, sonhos, pesadelos, intimidade, mudanças, silêncio, ruído, neurose ... vida. Abrigo, forma, lugar, atmosfera retratam cenários que potencializam experiências, acontecimentos, ocorrências para além da retórica funcionalista que os envolve. Nossa revista agora está aceitando artigos dentro dessa estrutura, que podem contribuir para expressar crítica e poeticamente uma compreensão mais ampla do design de interiores na arquitetura.

O Volume 6 da Sophia será dedicado ao tema Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations

Como todos nós nos tornamos cientes das mudanças graduais, mas inevitáveis, no ambiente? Como a fotografia aumenta a consciência pública sobre as mudanças ambientais urgentes implícitas em nossa época antropocêntrica? Como a fotografia pode contribuir para esses debates complexos? Essas questões podem ser abordadas a partir de várias perspectivas: desde o confronto de nossas memórias e entendimentos de um lugar para reativar "o que não está mais lá" ou propor "o que poderia estar lá".

Este volume da Sophia reunirá fotógrafos e pesquisadores que fazem contribuições significativas para essas discussões, incluindo os processos materiais de criação, gestão e interpretação de conjuntos de documentos. Estamos interessados ​​em processos materiais onde a fotografia é explorada como uma ferramenta de pesquisa significativa para visões críticas e inovadoras sobre arquitetura e transformação urbana em seus campos expandidos e contextualizados por sistemas maiores: dimensões culturais, políticas, artísticas, técnicas e históricas.

Iremos publicar trabalhos fotográficos de longo prazo de mudanças ambientais, documentação inovadora ou projetos de arquivo explorando formas discursivas de apresentação e construções visuais, artigos e trabalhos de pesquisa discutindo o rico espectro de técnicas e estratégias visuais empregadas em discussões ambientais.

O espectro de processos de transformação é amplo: desmatamento, erosão do solo, expansão suburbana, áreas devastadas, shoppings decadentes, moradias sociais negligenciadas, ruínas pós-industriais, gentrificação e privatização do espaço público ou movimentos tais como o "Occupy" e "Fridays for Future". Neste contexto, estaremos especialmente interessados ​​em propostas que sejam capazes de questionar como as diferentes dimensões da arquitetura e da transformação urbana podem ser significativamente compreendidas ou reenquadradas através das diferentes lentes e perspectivas dos processos visuais.

A revista está agora a aceitar trabalhos fotográficos e artigos críticos dentro do quadro acima, que permitirão ao público interessado refletir sobre os diversos processos de transformação que afetam nossas cidades e territórios atuais.

SOBRE A SOPHIA PEER REVIEW JOURNAL

A colecção Sophia destina-se especificamente a abordar o trabalho teórico, e pretende ser o meio editorial de um conjunto de textos exploratórios e críticos sobre a imagem em sentido lato, ou seja, abrangendo os mundos do design, da fotografia, do cinema, do vídeo, da televisão e do novo. meios de comunicação.

A etimologia da palavra “sophia” está intimamente ligada aos conceitos de sapiência e sabedoria: (grego, “sofía”) é o que a “pessoa sábia” tem, e esta palavra também é derivada de philo + sophia (“amor de sabedoria"). Temos interesse em fazer do jornal Sophia uma mentis instrumenta capaz de ampliar nosso conhecimento crítico e questionar o universo da imagem de forma inovadora.

A coleção, que acolhe diversos trabalhos académicos, constituirá também um importante meio de publicação de alguns trabalhos teóricos provenientes do Centro de I&D da FAUP - CEAU. O objetivo da coleção de periódicos Sophia é publicar um conjunto de textos teóricos e críticos sobre imagem em formato de livro; esses textos podem ser retirados de seções da revista scopio ou submetidos por novos autores e outros centros de P&D nacionais e internacionais, por meio de call for papers. O objetivo é desafiar diferentes artistas e criadores a publicar artigos originais, resenhas, resenhas de livros e outros textos de interesse e valor para esta coleção.

No dia 14 de outubro de 2020, terá lugar no Auditório Fernando Távora da FAUP a Conferência Internacional: Visual Spaces of Change: Publicação Sophia Journal Exposição e a Cerimónia e Entrega de Prémios e Certificados no âmbito do Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Expositor e Projetor Móvel. Após a cerimónia, terá lugar a inauguração da exposição do protótipo proposta vencedora do concurso – da autoria da studium - creative studio – nas instalações da FAUP com o apoio de Jofebar.

O evento presencial e o programa de videoconferências enquadra-se no ciclo de conferências e debates de Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI) na FAUP organizado em parceria com a UNIZAR, UA e DECA / ID +. O evento será transmitido ao vivo online, abarcando: (i) uma série de videoconferências; (ii) a mesa redonda de lançamento e apresentação do 4º número da publicação com revisão por pares - Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space through Photography and Image; (iii) as apresentações de artigos do 5º número - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere; (iv) o anúncio da chamada aberta para artigos para o sexto número da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations; (v) o anúncio dos Prémios | Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição e Projector Móvel e a exposição Visual Spaces of Change, desenvolvida para esta conferência e para os espaços da FAUP, onde se comunicarão novos projetos de Fotografia Contemporânea, bem como uma nova estrutura Expositiva que foi galardoada com o primeiro prémio no Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição, Estrutura Expositiva e Projetor Móvel.

A abertura do evento estará a cargo de Pedro Leão Neto (AAI / CEAU-FAUP) que anunciará os prémios do Concurso Internacional de Ideias VSC: Expositor e Projector Móvel, dando em seguida a palavra a Wilfried Wang (UTSoA) O'Neil Ford Centennial Professor de Arquitectura na Universidade do Texas em Austin e Editor convidado do número 6 da publicação Sophia: Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations, e que irá apresentar e falará sobre a temática da chamada para artigos desta 6ª edição.

Aveiro) editora convidada do 5º número de Sophia - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere – fará a apresentação da publicação e em seguida dará a palavra aos autores dos artigos selecionados para este 5º número.

A mesa redonda que se segue - Visual Spaces of Change through Photography and Image - conta com a participação de Inaki Bergera (Escuela de Ingeniería y Arquitectura Universidad de Zaragoza), Pedro Gadanho, que co-organizou a conferência Visual Spaces of Change que teve lugar no Museu de Arquitectura e Tecnologia de Arte (MAAT) em 2019 (ocupando o cargo de Director do MAAT na altura), Paolo Rosselli e Marco Iuliano, ambos oradores principais da conferência no MAAT e Fátima Pombo (Departamento de Comunicação e Arte - U. A).

O objectivo deste evento, que terá lugar no auditório da FAUP e também em formato de videoconferência, é o de promover uma reflexão e debate em volta do universo da Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem, abordando várias questões transversais ao mundo da Fotografia e da Arquitectura, explorando como a imagem pode ser um meio para atravessar fronteiras e deslocar limites entre diferentes áreas disciplinares. O enfoque da conferência incide sobre as transformações do espaço público e acerca da conceção de interioridade em arquitectura, tendo como mote, por um lado, os textos publicados na publicação Sophia Journal referente à conferência ON THE SURFACE que teve lugar em Maio de 2019 no Museu de Arquitectura, Arte e Tecnologia (MAAT), onde se analisou o potencial da Fotografia como instrumento significativo para investigar, refletir e tornar visível as diferentes dinâmicas de mudança urbana e  abrir novos horizontes de intervenção no espaço público. Por outro lado, os artigos selecionados para o 5º número da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere.

Por fim, será possível visitar a Exposição Visual Spaces of Change, desenvolvida para esta conferência e para os espaços da FAUP, onde se comunicarão novos projetos de Fotografia Contemporânea, bem como uma nova estrutura Expositiva que foi galardoada com o primeiro prémio no Concurso Internacional de Ideias: Exposição, Estrutura Expositiva e Projetor Móvel.

O Visual Spaces of Change propõe uma estratégia de comunicação visual baseada no desenvolvimento de projetos de fotografia contemporânea que reflitam sobre as diferentes dinâmicas de mudança urbana para abrir novos horizontes de intervenção pública no espaço público. Estes projetos são concebidos como “narrativas visuais” destas dinâmicas, interferindo intencionalmente com o território metropolitano numa representação auto-reflexiva do seu próprio processo de mudança, reduzindo a distância entre os objetos de investigação (paisagens, lugares, espaços públicos e coletivos) e as suas representações.

Os conteúdos da exposição estarão online na plataforma VSC e a experiência expositiva será registada puramente para efeitos de investigação, e será posteriormente analisada no contexto do projeto de investigação VSC em curso.

A conferência será conduzida em inglês.

Ao(s) vencedor(es) será atribuído um prémio monetário ou um equipamento informático.As propostas dos(s) autor(es) ou equipa(s) que forem premiadas ou receberem menção honrosa terão o seu estudo e créditos incluídos no projeto de investigação VSC, sendo pelo menos assegurada a integração de uma das propostas para execução, divulgação, publicitação, exposição e utilização no âmbito do VSC, contando com o apoio da Jofebar para a construção de um protótipo da estrutura vencedora.
1º O(a)s autores das propostas vencedoras serão contactado(a)s no sentido de aprofundarem o projeto, com apoio do AAI-CEAU-FAUP, AAi2 Lab e Centro ALGORITMI-Lab2PT/UMINHO e outros parceiros, nomeadamente a empresa Jofebar | Portugal no sentido de viabilizar a sua construção.
2º Sem prejuízo dos prémios atribuídos a cada uma das propostas vencedoras será dado um certificado de participação a cada equipa do concurso, bem como as suas entradas serão divulgadas nas plataformas e redes do grupo AAI (websites, redes sociais, etc.).
3º A entrega dos prémios será feita em cerimónia pública a realizar na FAUP contando com a presença da Jofebar durante o ano de 2020.

Os objetivos teóricos do 4º número de Sophia e da 5ª Conferência Internacional On the Surface, “Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Transformation of Publicness” eram para um debate interdisciplinar sobre fotografia e arquitetura, com uma forte componente editorial dedicada à publicação de obras e ideias originais na interseção desses dois campos. O tema escolhido para esta edição do On the Surface foi focado nas transformações contemporâneas do espaço público: “Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space” que se propõe a debater e explorar o potencial da Imagem e da Fotografia como ferramentas úteis para pesquisar, refletir sobre e tornar visível o surgimento de novas experiências coletivas no espaço social.

Volume 5 da Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere

O interesse do 5º número da Sophia, que se chamará Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere, está em artigos originais que discutem o cerne da Interioridade na Arquitetura como um assunto aberto a diversas ideias e práticas no reino do espaço construído a ser vivenciado por seus habitantes. A interioridade diferencia um lugar de um não-lugar. Os não-lugares são pontos com os quais o indivíduo não cria nenhuma relação; são lugares de trânsito sem memória, identidade, história, construção pessoal, referências, emoções das quais o consolo não é menor. A interioridade chama aquele tipo de espaço que acomoda pensamentos, sonhos, pesadelos, intimidade, mudanças, silêncio, ruído, neurose ... vida. Abrigo, forma, lugar, atmosfera retratam cenários que potencializam experiências, acontecimentos, ocorrências para além da retórica funcionalista que os envolve. Nossa revista agora está aceitando artigos dentro dessa estrutura, que podem contribuir para expressar crítica e poeticamente uma compreensão mais ampla do design de interiores na arquitetura.

O Volume 6 da Sophia será dedicado ao tema Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations

Como todos nós nos tornamos cientes das mudanças graduais, mas inevitáveis, no ambiente? Como a fotografia aumenta a consciência pública sobre as mudanças ambientais urgentes implícitas em nossa época antropocêntrica? Como a fotografia pode contribuir para esses debates complexos? Essas questões podem ser abordadas a partir de várias perspectivas: desde o confronto de nossas memórias e entendimentos de um lugar para reativar "o que não está mais lá" ou propor "o que poderia estar lá".

Este volume da Sophia reunirá fotógrafos e pesquisadores que fazem contribuições significativas para essas discussões, incluindo os processos materiais de criação, gestão e interpretação de conjuntos de documentos. Estamos interessados ​​em processos materiais onde a fotografia é explorada como uma ferramenta de pesquisa significativa para visões críticas e inovadoras sobre arquitetura e transformação urbana em seus campos expandidos e contextualizados por sistemas maiores: dimensões culturais, políticas, artísticas, técnicas e históricas.

Iremos publicar trabalhos fotográficos de longo prazo de mudanças ambientais, documentação inovadora ou projetos de arquivo explorando formas discursivas de apresentação e construções visuais, artigos e trabalhos de pesquisa discutindo o rico espectro de técnicas e estratégias visuais empregadas em discussões ambientais.

O espectro de processos de transformação é amplo: desmatamento, erosão do solo, expansão suburbana, áreas devastadas, shoppings decadentes, moradias sociais negligenciadas, ruínas pós-industriais, gentrificação e privatização do espaço público ou movimentos tais como o "Occupy" e "Fridays for Future". Neste contexto, estaremos especialmente interessados ​​em propostas que sejam capazes de questionar como as diferentes dimensões da arquitetura e da transformação urbana podem ser significativamente compreendidas ou reenquadradas através das diferentes lentes e perspectivas dos processos visuais.

SOBRE A SOPHIA PEER REVIEW JOURNAL

A colecção Sophia destina-se especificamente a abordar o trabalho teórico, e pretende ser o meio editorial de um conjunto de textos exploratórios e críticos sobre a imagem em sentido lato, ou seja, abrangendo os mundos do design, da fotografia, do cinema, do vídeo, da televisão e do novo. meios de comunicação.

A etimologia da palavra “sophia” está intimamente ligada aos conceitos de sapiência e sabedoria: (grego, “sofía”) é o que a “pessoa sábia” tem, e esta palavra também é derivada de philo + sophia (“amor de sabedoria"). Temos interesse em fazer do jornal Sophia uma mentis instrumenta capaz de ampliar nosso conhecimento crítico e questionar o universo da imagem de forma inovadora.

A coleção, que acolhe diversos trabalhos académicos, constituirá também um importante meio de publicação de alguns trabalhos teóricos provenientes do Centro de I&D da FAUP - CEAU. O objetivo da coleção de periódicos Sophia é publicar um conjunto de textos teóricos e críticos sobre imagem em formato de livro; esses textos podem ser retirados de seções da revista scopio ou submetidos por novos autores e outros centros de P&D nacionais e internacionais, por meio de call for papers. O objetivo é desafiar diferentes artistas e criadores a publicar artigos originais, resenhas, resenhas de livros e outros textos de interesse e valor para esta coleção.

International Conference: Visual Spaces of Change: Sophia Journal Exhibition and Mobile Projector Awards

On the 14th of october 2020, the International Conference: Visual Spaces of Change: Sophia Journal Exhibition and Mobile Projector Awards will take place in Auditorium Fernando Távora, FAUP. The live conference and the videoconferences program is organized within the framework of the Architecture, Art and Image (AAI) Conference and Debate cycle in FAUP, in partnership with UNIZAR, U. Aveiro and DECA / ID. This event will be broadcasted live online, encompassing: (i) a series of videoconferences; (ii) the roundtable launch and presentation of the 4th number of the Peer Review journal Sophia: Visual Spaces of Change: Unveiling the Publicness of Urban Space through Photography and Image; (iii) the presentations of articles of the 5th number of Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere; (iv) the launch of the open call for papers for the 6h issue of Sophia Journal: Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations; (v) the annoucement of the awards of the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector and the Visual Spaces of Change exhibition, developed for this conference and for the spaces of FAUP, where new Contemporary Photography Projects will be communicated, as well as a new Exhibition Structure that was awarded with the first prize in the International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector.

In the first part of the event, Pedro Leão Neto (AAI / CEAU-FAUP) will open the roundtable discussion by announcing the awards for VSC International Competition of Ideas: Exhibition and Mobile Projector - 1º Prize Sérgio Magalhães (studium.creative studio) and then pass the word to Wilfried Wang (UTSoA) O'Neil Ford Centennial Professor in Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin and Guest Editor of Issue #6 of Sophia journal: "Visual Spaces Of Change: photographic documentation of environmental transformations" who will announce the open call for this 6th issue of Sophia.

Fátima Pombo (Department of Communication and Art - U. Aveiro) Guest Editor of the 5th number of Sophia - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere - will introduce this publication and give the stage for the selected authors to present their articles. The following debate - Visual Spaces of Change through Photography and Image - will count with the participation of Inaki Bergera (Escuela de Ingeniería y Arquitectura Universidad de Zaragoza), Pedro Gadanho, who co-organised the conference Visual Spaces of Change that took place at the Museum of Art Architecture and Technology (MAAT) in 2018 and was at the time Director of the Museum, Paolo Rosselli and Marco Iuliano who were both keynote speakers in the MAAT conference and Fátima Pombo, guest Editor of Sophia 5th number.

The objective of this event that will take place both in Auditorium Fernando Távora and online through the form of videoconference,is to promote the reflection and debate on the universes of Architecture, Art and Image, addressing various issues transversal to the worlds of Photography and Architecture, exploring how the image can be a means to cross borders and shift boundaries between different disciplinary areas. The focus is on the contemporary transformations of public space and designing interiority, having as its motto, on the one hand, the published works and authors that reflect the debate and analysis of the conference ON THE SURFACE that took place in May 2019 at the Museum of Art Architecture and Technology (MAAT), focusing on the potential of Photography as a significant instrument to investigate, reflect and make visible the emergence of new collective experiences in social space. And, on the other hand, present the articles selected for the 5th number of Sophia - Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere.

Finally, it will be possible to visit the exhibition of the Visual Spaces of Change Projects developed for this conference, featuring new projects in the new exhibition modular structure that was awarded the first prize in the International Conference: Visual Spaces of Change: Sophia Journal Exhibition and Mobile Projector Awards.

The Visual Spaces of Change research project proposes a visual communication strategy based on the development of contemporary photography projects that reflect upon different dynamics of urban change to open new horizons of public intervention in the public space. These projects are conceived as “visual narratives” of these dynamics, intentionally interfering with the metropolitan territory in a self-reflexive representation of its own process of change, reducing the distance between the objects of investigation (landscapes, places, public and collective spaces) and their representations. The VSC exhibition contents will also be available online in the VSC platform. The encounters between individuals and the photography projects being exhibited will be registered for research purposes, constituting significant research content for further analysis in the context of the Visual Spaces of Change research project.

The conference will be conducted in English.

Volume 5 of Sophia: Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere

The interest of the 5th number of Sophia, which will be called Visual Spaces of Change: Designing Interiority - shelter, shape, place, atmosphere, is in original articles that discuss the core of Interiority in Architecture as a matter open to diverse ideas and practices in the realm of built space to be experienced by its inhabitants. Interiority differentiates a place of a non-place. The non-places are spots with which the individual does not create any relation; they are transit-places without memory, identity, history, personal construction, references, emotions of which solace is not a minor one. Interiority calls that kind of space that accommodates thoughts, dreams, nightmares, intimacy, changes, silence, noise, neurosis...life. Shelter, shape, place, atmosphere portray scenarios that enhance experiences, events, occurrences beyond the functionalistic rhetoric enveloping them.  Our journal is now accepting papers within this framework, which may contribute to voice critically and poetically a broader understanding of designing interiority in architecture.

These issues can be addressed from several perspectives: from confronting our memories and understandings of a place to reactivating ‘what is no longer there’ or proposing ‘what could be there’.

This volume of Sophia will bring together photographers and researchers who make significant contributions to these discussions, including the material processes of creating, managing and interpreting sets of documents. We are interested in material processes where photography is explored as a significant research tool for critical and innovative views on architecture and urban transformation in their expanded fields and contextualized by larger systems: cultural, political, artistic, technical, and historical dimensions. 

We will be publishing long-term photographic work of environmental changes, innovative documentation or archival projects exploring discursive forms of presentation and visual constructs, articles and research papers discussing the rich spectrum of techniques and visual strategies employed in environmental discussions. 

The spectrum of transformational processes is broad: deforestation, soil erosion, suburban sprawl, wastelands, decaying shopping malls, neglected social housing, postindustrial ruins, gentrification and privatization of public space, or demonstration movements from “Occupy” to “Fridays for Future”. In this context, we will be especially interested in proposals that are able to question how the different dimensions of architecture and urban transformation may be meaningfully understood or reframed through the different lenses and perspectives of visual processes.

The journal is now accepting photographic work and critical papers within the above framework that will allow the interested public to reflect on the diverse transformational processes affecting our present cities and territories.

ABOUT PEER REVIEW JOURNAL SOPHIASophia collection is specifically designed to address theoretical work, and it aims to be the publishing medium for a set of exploratory and critical texts on image in the broad sense, i.e. comprehending the worlds of design, photography, film, video, television and new media. 

The etymology of the word “sophia” is closely linked to the concepts of sapience and wisdom: (Greek , “sofía”) it is what the “wise person” has, and this word is also derived from philo+sophia (“love of wisdom”). We are interested in making Sophia journal a mentis instrumenta capable of extending our critical knowledge and questioning the universe of image in an innovative way.

The collection, which welcomes several academic works, will also be an important publishing medium for some theoretical papers coming from the FAUP R & D center – CEAU. The purpose of Sophia journal collection is to publish a set of theoretical and critical texts on image in book format; these texts can either be taken from sections of scopio magazine or submitted by new authors and other R & D national and international centers, through a call for papers. The aim is to challenge different artists and creators to publish original articles, reviews, book reviews and other texts of interest and value to this collection.

Resumo da sessão de apresentação da publicação Contrast: A Fotografia no Ensino Superior

A FAUP recebeu no passado dia 4 de Março, pelas 18h00, mais uma sessão integrada no programa do ciclo de Conferências e Debates Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI): a mesa redonda de lançamento e apresentação da publicação “CONTRAST: A Fotografia no Ensino Superior”. O evento contou com a presença de Fátima Vieira, vice-reitora da U. Porto (Cultura, Museus e U.Porto Edições) e a abertura da mesa esteve a cargo de Raquel Paulino, diretora do MIArq - FAUP. A apresentação do livro foi feita por Fátima Pombo, diretora do curso de Design da U. Aveiro e o debate que se seguiu foi moderado por Pedro Leão Neto (FAUP) e Olívia Marques da Silva (uniMAD/ESMAD /IPP), coordenadores editoriais. Este lançamento contou ainda com a presença de grande parte dos editores que representam as 9 instituições de Ensino que integram esta publicação: AR.CO, DARQ, DCAM, ESAP, ESMAD, FAUP, FBAUL, FBAUP e IPT.

O objetivo desta mesa redonda foi debater o papel e a importância do ensino e da prática da fotografia nas escolas superiores portuguesas de arte, de design, de arquitetura e de estudos artísticos, assim como possibilitar um entendimento mais aprofundado sobre o universo do fotográfico. Pretende-se que a CONTRAST possa constituir o mote e um instrumento para refletir sobre diversas estratégias de ensino do fotográfico de forma a perceber não só como esta pode criar pontes entre as várias áreas disciplinares onde a fotografia está presente, mas como também pode ajudar a repensar o real.

SOBRE A CONTRAST
A publicação CONTRAST é o resultado de uma parceria estabelecida entre o CCRE/CEAU/FAUP e a ESMAD / uniMAD, e vem dar continuidade e uma nova dimensão à secção com o mesmo nome, que tinha vindo a ser publicada na revista internacional de fotografia scopio Magazine. Um dos seus principais objectivos da CONTRAST é o de reunir um conjunto diversificado de textos de reflexão e análise crítica sobre projectos fotográficos realizados em contexto de ensino e investigação, representativos das principais instituições do ensino superior português ligadas à docência da fotografia e integrando também unidades curriculares em que a fotografia surge no âmbito de outras áreas disciplinares, como por exemplo a Arquitectura, o Design, a Multimédia, os Estudos Artísticos, entre outras

Esta nova publicação, com ISSN próprio, oferece assim um conjunto alargado de textos escritos por professores e investigadores sobre as suas estratégias pedagógicas e discutindo uma seleção de projetos fotográficos desenvolvidos por estudantes da responsabilidade de cada instituição ou unidade curricular. Perante a inexistência de uma publicação com estas caraterísticas, acreditamos que este projecto editorial vem preencher uma importante lacuna no universo do ensino da fotografia em Portugal.  Assim, a CONTRAST pretende contribuir para o desenvolvimento e divulgação da fotografia enquanto área do conhecimento. Acreditamos que esta publicação irá possibilitar uma melhor perceção sobre os diferentes sistemas e objetivos educacionais em torno da fotografia no contexto do ensino superior em Portugal, assim como dos seus resultados. Por todas estas razões, acreditamos que a CONTRAST ajudará a criar sinergias entre diversas escolas de fotografia e a trazer uma maior visibilidade a estas instituições bem como aos projetos dos seus alunos finalistas, divulgando-os a nível nacional e internacional.

A CONTRAST evolui assim enquanto espaço independente, integrando diversos editores ligados ao ensino da fotografia, e nomeadamente nove instituições de ensino:

Irá realizar-se no na Sala do Janelão no dia 6 de Março, pelas 14:30 uma aula com o título “Plataforma colaborativa VSC: caso de estudo integrando as unidades curriculares de FACT e CAAD na FAUP “ que tem como convidados os investigadores do projeto VSC Miguel Fonseca, Eduardo Silva e Miguel Santos. Num primeiro momento será feita uma apresentação e exposição da plataforma colaborativa VSC e seus os operadores e funcionalidades dirigidas a cursos nas áreas de Arquitectura e Artes. Num segundo momento, os alunos terão oportunidade de testarem a plataforma com o auxílio dos investigadores do projeto VSC. 

Esta sessão é especialmente dirigida aos alunos das unidades curriculares de Fotografia de Arquitectura, Cidade e Território (FACT) do 2º Ciclo e de Comunicação de Projeto de Arquitectura (CAAD I e II) do 1º Ciclo da FAUP. 

Esta sessão tem a coordenação de Pedro Leão Neto e está integrada no projecto de investigação Visual Spaces of Change (VSC), AAC n.º 02/SAICT/2017 (refª POCI-01-0145 - FEDER - 030605), co-financiado pelo Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional e por fundos nacionais através da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT, I. P.).

Através da realização destas conferências / debates pretende-se contribuir para a criação de um espaço de exploração, debate e reflexão de ideias em torno de novos caminhos de investigação sobre o espaço público, com um enfoque em dinâmicas emergentes de transformação urbana e a utilização da imagem com especial incidência pela fotografia como instrumentos de pesquisa e comunicação. Estas sessões públicas, abertas a todos os alunos da U. Porto, permitem que diversos fotógrafos ou autores possam expor e explicar os seus trabalhos de fotografia, com especial incidência nos que exploram de forma significativa as temáticas de espaço / arquitectura e da fotografia como um instrumento de indagação do real, como documento e ficção.

Estas sessões são públicas e abertas à sociedade civil, bem como à comunidade académica, nomeadamente a todos os alunos da U. Porto, permitindo que diversos autores possam falar dos seus projecto, com especial incidência nas temáticas de fotografia e arquitectura que são de grande interesse para o projecto de investigação Visual Spaces of Change (VSC), AAC n.º 02/SAICT/2017 (refª POCI-01-0145 - FEDER - 030605), co-financiado pelo Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional e por fundos nacionais através da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT, I. Eduardo Silva (AAI)
Mestre em Design da Imagem pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (2017) e Licenciado em Artes Plásticas e Multimédia pela Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu (2012).Opera desde 2011 no campo da fotografia documental e é actualmente bolseiro de investigação FCT no Centro de Comunicação e Representação Espacial (CCRE/CEAU/FAUP) no âmbito do projecto de investigação Visual Spaces of Change (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030605).

Miguel Fonseca (Centro ALGORITMI)
Miguel Fonseca é bolseiro de investigação FCT no Centro ALGORITMI | Universidade do Minho no âmbito do projecto de investigação Visual Spaces of Change (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030605). Em 2017, acabou o mestrado em Multimédia na Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro com a investigação "Plataformas interativas de vídeo: uma proposta de implementação", na qual explorou o direto em 360º. As suas áreas de investigação são o desenvolvimento Web e a Multimédia.

Miguel Santos (AAI)
Artista e investigador transdisciplinar, cruza na sua prática – instalação, escultura, vídeo e fotografia –perspectivas colaborativas entre arte e ciência para explorar a noção de subjectividade e a sua relação com a natureza. Depois da sua formação base em Artes Visuais – Maumaus, Lisboa, London Guildhall University, Reino Unido – conclui o mestrado em investigação em arte em 2006 e obteve em 2011 o doutoramento em Belas Artes pela Universidade de Sheffield Hallam (Reino Unido) com o projeto “Poetics of the Interface: Creating Works of Art that Engage in Self-Reflection”, com uma bolsa da Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. Em 2013 participou numa residência artística em biologia sintética no Centro Alemão de Investigação em Cancro (Heidelberg, Alemanha) e em 2015 foi bolseiro do Leverhulme Trust numa residência artística no Departamento de Geografia, da Universidade de Durham (Reino Unido). Os seus interesses foram ainda aprofundados num laboratório de campo Arte & Ciência promovido pela Sociedade Finlandesa de Bioarte na estação biológica de Kilpisjärvi (Lapónia, Finlândia). O seu trabalho artístico tem sido exposto nacional e internacionalmente. Actualmente é investigador no grupo Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI-CEAU-FAUP).

Pedro Leão Neto (AAI, AAI2 Lab)
Arquitecto pela FAUP (1992) onde actualmente é regente de Comunicação, Fotografia e Multimédia do 2º ciclo, é coordenador do grupo de investigação CCRE, integrado no centro de I&D da FAUP, coordenador do AAI 2 Lab integrado no Centro de Competências da Universidade do Porto para a área dos media U.Porto Media Innovation Labs (MIL) e Director da Associação Cultural Cityscopio (ACC). É Editor e coordenador responsável das publicações da scopio Editions desde 2010, cujo enfoque é o da fotografia documental e artística relacionada com Arquitectura, Cidade e Território.

Irá realizar-se na Sala do Janelão da FAUP no dia 28 de fevereiro, pelas 14:30, mais uma sessão do ciclo de Conferências e Debates Arquitectura, Arte e Imagem (AAI) com a moderação de Pedro Leão Neto e aberta a toda a comunidade académica da U. Porto, com especial enfoque para os alunos das unidades curriculares de Fotografia de Arquitectura, Cidade e Território (FACT) do 2º Ciclo e de Comunicação de Projeto de Arquitectura (CAAD I e II) do 1º Ciclo da FAUP.

Esta sessão terá como convidado Miguel Santos que irá apresentar o projecto Hard Engineering: Proposals for Future Ruins: Lisbon, titulo de um projecto de investigação desenvolvido entre 2016 e 2019 que envolveu o Royal College of Arts, Sheffield Hallam University, Durham University, Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade de Lisboa e o Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência sobre a cidade de Lisboa.  Este projecto explora a forma como o espaço urbano é produzido por actos do quotidiano e como a cidade é construída de estruturas materiais e imateriais  de organização cívica, representações, poder e controlo. Seis guias especulativos de Lisboa reimaginam o espaço urbano contemporâneo através da investigação de experiências negligenciadas, traços da profunda mudança social, cicatrizes de passados desastres naturais, crises económicas e conflitos humanos. Estas interpretações e proposições da cidade de Lisboa foram o resultado de uma colaboração interdisciplinar entre diversas disciplinas: arte, arquitectura, engenharia civil, geografia humano e física, e antropologia social.
