WITH THE AUTHOR | FEIRA DO LIVRO 2020

About the book OLIM:

“What has been collected in these “Fichas”1 are “Flashes”2, snapshots that fix objects, geographies, states of mind, that can last, available to overcome situations of impasse, insecurities and even visual blurring. These Fichas are a comfort, a refuge in the hard times of the profession, in the loneliness of design, when we really have to decide.”

Eduardo Souto de Moura

1.     L. Wittgenstein – Fichas (Zettel), Edições 70.
2.     Flash, Herberto Helder, Published by the author.

“Made up of small events that occur in a succession without chronology or hierarchy, OLIM is directly descended from the lineage of the atlas, the book as a resonance box, which produces circulation between worlds, which is not self-contained, which is not set in any historic time.“

“Based on a rationale of migration of images and bodies, OLIM is a book that seeks beauty, in the deepest (as a mystery) and most humble (as a gift) sense of the term.”

Nuno Faria

“Equally significant is the effort to condense key ideas/emotions into many of the OLIM aphorisms which, combined with images, create a very specific poetics; many of them appear as if they were a visual haiku where the power and meaning owe a great deal to the relationship of the “form” - that the image allows to be re-imagined - with the “word” - and what together they can represent.”

“Thanks to the significant collaboration between the author, publisher and designer the specific potential of the physical book was explored in order to offer an innovative reading and a deeper understanding of both the author as a person and of his work.”

Né Santelmo

“OLIM by Camilo Rebelo challenges readers to search for a meaning in the fragments of journeys and projects that shows us, through images combined with sundry thoughts, something that brings it closer to Umberto Eco’s concept of opera aperta1 because it allows a range of interpretations.”

“The book thus links the image, especially photography, with the text to create a visual discourse where there is room for coherence, and for paradox and play, too, the oxymoron.”
