Arquiteturas Film Festival promotes photography workshop with Leon Krige in Porto
Porto for its 13th edition | July 1st to 5th, 2026, under the theme Urban Age
The Arquiteturas Film Festival returns to Porto for its 13th edition, between July 1st and 5th, 2026, under the theme Urban Age. As part of this year's program, the INSTITUTO organizes the photography workshop Architecture of the Eye, led by South African photographer and architect Leon Krige, one of the leading contemporary figures in urban photography.
Registration for the workshop is open until May 15th, via the form available on the festival's official website.
Rules e Registration form, via Google Forms.
The initiative is developed in two modules — one dedicated to urban space and the other to contemporary architecture — proposing a practical approach to digital and analog photography in different lighting conditions, both day and night. The digital component prioritizes the panoramic format, while the analog aspect explores creative techniques such as multiple exposures and lens rotation.
Over five days, participants will work in several emblematic locations in the city of Porto, including the historic center, the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), the Serralves Museum, and the Casa da Música. The digital editing and analog developing sessions will take place at Casa Comum – Rectory of the University of Porto.
The workshop concludes with a public presentation of the work developed by the participants.
The use of personal equipment is not mandatory; it is possible to follow the photographer's work without a camera. However, participants may use their own equipment and experiment with the techniques covered during the sessions. The training will be conducted entirely in English.
The event is organized by the INSTITUTE, in partnership with Casa Comum – Rectorate of the University of Porto, the Architecture, Art and Image group of the Nuno Portas Studies Center of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (AAI/FAUP), the Serralves Museum, the Order of Architects – Northern Regional Section, and the Cityscopio Cultural Association, through its publishing project scopio Editions.
The collaboration between the AAI/FAUP group and the Cityscopio Cultural Association seeks to deepen the role of image and representational tools—with a special focus on contemporary photography—as instruments of critical reflection on architecture, city, and urban space. Through the scopio Editions publishing project, this partnership has been promoting new readings of contemporary architecture and urban dynamics, articulating research, artistic practice, and critical thinking.
The festival also has the support of DGArtes and the Porto City Council.
