Landscapes of Care: Public housing across multiple geographies: crossing theories and practices addresses contemporary research, projects, experiments and photographic and visual practices that are concerned with how architecture, understood in a broad sense, can help heal the relationship between man and habitat, as well as the socio-environmental crisis that the planet is experiencing.
Published in this volume are theoretical works, records of experiences in social housing programmes, and visual essays on initiatives or pilot programmes in public housing, where photography, graphic recording, testimony and documentary are significantly present. Descriptive, analytical and interpretive projects, capable of offering a unique perception and a new understanding of housing, its residents and the city, as well as its ability to respond to and reflect local conditions and be an element of socio-territorial cohesion. Projects that are critical territories capable of expanding our understanding of architecture and the social landscape, in terms of their language, location, residents and neighbourhood.
Created in 2016 and edited by the Architecture, Art and Image (AAI) research group at FAUP's Centre for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (CEAU), the Sophia Journal is an annual peer-reviewed indexed academic publication dedicated to the dissemination of critical articles and exploratory visual essays on the universe of Architecture, Art and Image. All issues of Sophia Journal, as well as the articles and visual essays published, are open access.
